In Loving Memory of Our Founder

Spectrum Child Development Center was founded by Dr. Aminath Fazna, the Maldives’ only Developmental Pediatrician. She was a distinguished Consultant Subspecialist in Developmental Pediatrics and a Pediatrician, with advanced training from the National University of Malaysia and the University of California, USA.

Dr. Fazna dedicated her life to improving the lives of children and their families. Her vision, compassion, and unwavering commitment to early identification and intervention transformed developmental pediatric care in the Maldives and laid the foundation for Spectrum Child Development Center.

Her Areas of Expertise

Dr. Fazna brought a wealth of expertise in managing a wide range of developmental and behavioral issues in children, including Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD),  Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Learning Disabilities such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. She also had expertise in addressing speech and motor delays, ensuring early intervention and support. 

Comprehensive Developmental Assessments

Dr. Fazna trained to administer some of the most advanced developmental assessments available globally, including: 

– Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, Fourth Edition (Bayley-4): The most comprehensive tool for assessing the development of infants and toddlers, crucial for early identification of developmental delays. 

– Mullen Scales of Early Learning: Another key instrument for evaluating cognitive and motor abilities in young children. 

These assessments are particularly important for early identification and intervention in children at risk of developmental delays, such as those born preterm, children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and those with long-term illnesses. Early identification allows us to pinpoint specific skill areas needing intervention and to monitor the effectiveness of ongoing therapies such as speech, occupational, and physical therapy. 

Autism Diagnosis and Behavioral Assessments 

In addition to her expertise in developmental delays, Dr. Fazna was extensively trained in the United States in the use of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), the gold standard for diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorders. She is also skilled in diagnosing: 

– ADHD: Utilizing the latest diagnostic criteria and tools. 

– Behavioral Disorders: Implementing effective management plans for a variety of behavioral issues. 

– Learning Disabilities: Conducting thorough assessments for conditions like dyslexia and dyscalculia. 

– Special Education Needs Assessments: Providing expert advice on additional support and educational strategies for children with special needs. 

Her Legacy Lives On

Although Dr. Fazna is no longer with us, her vision, values, and dedication continue to guide Spectrum Child Development Center. Her work has touched countless children and families, and the systems, knowledge, and standards she established remain at the heart of everything we do.

We are committed to carrying forward her mission by continuing to provide compassionate, evidence-based developmental care and supporting every child in reaching their fullest potential.

May Allah (SWT) grant Dr. Aminath Fazna the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus, forgive her shortcomings, and accept her lifelong service to children as a source of ongoing reward (Sadaqah Jariyah). Ameen.
